Community Links
Grantham Tennis Club is proud of its place within the local community - it has been part of the Grantham and Lincolnshire scene for 100 years!
We are committed to working actively with different groups within the local community and an important target for the Club over the coming period is to extend these community links
Schools
Our Coaches are currently working with:
- Little Gonerby Infants School
- Harrowby Infants School
- Great Ponton Primary School
- The West Grantham Federation of Schools (Ambergate, Earl of Dysart Primary, Spittalgate Primary, St Hugh's Maths and Computing College)
- The Lincolnshire Schools Sports Partnership
Coaches visit schools for 4 weekly sessions, working with groups of children and young people to introduce them to the enjoyment and skills of tennis. The students involved are then invited to take part in the Club's Junior Programme
Other involvement with local schools includes:
- 2 High Schools (Years 10 / 11) and 2 Primary Schools (Years 5 / 6) using the Club facilities on a regular basis as part of their sports curriculum
- A new tennis taster experience involving pupils from 10 different local Primary Schools
- The Club hosting this summer a primary schools tournament
- Providing Work Experience for local yr 10 school students
- Running Tennis Leaders courses for young people 14+
- The appointment from within the Club of a dedicated Schools Tennis Volunteer Co-ordinator (Sue Cox)
We are very keen to hear from other schools and youth organisations that may be interested in developing a link with Grantham Tennis Club
Lincolnshire Youth Service
We are currently establishing links with the Lincolnshire Youth Service with a view to providing positive experienceand opportunities for success through tennis for young people - especially those who may have in the past encountered difficulties with life skills and self-confidence
Disability awareness
We are currently exploring the potential for the Club to become more involved with tennis coaching and provision for disabled players
Promoting the role of tennis within the wider community
Grantham Tennis Club takes every opportunity to publicize via local newspapers and other media the profile of our club players. Our Club President Dennis Hernanam, who is 92 years old and still playing regularly was recently presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Lincolnshire County Tennis Association
Healthy community
An important part of Grantham Tennis Club's role is to contribute to the promotion of a healthy local community
- The Club has over 400 active playing members
- Our Club Development Plan focuses strongly on extending its involvement with different sectors of the local community
- With support from the Lincolnshire Community Foundation the Club is organizing in May 2011 an "Active at 60 - tennis for beginners" course designed to attract and to meet the physical exercise and social needs of people who may not previously have thought of engaging in learning tennis
- We are aiming to repeat this summer successful introductory tennis sessions at Wyndham Park
Other community links
We have now established good links with Sankt Augustin Tennis Club near Bonn in Germany
Grantham Tennis Club values its close links with local businesses and appreciates their support. We recognize particularly the valuable help we receive from:
- Totemic

We are very keen to extend these business links as the Club continues to develop and expand. Please contact Sarah Patton for more information
