Junior Tennis

You may be prepared to work so hard at your game that Andy Murray or Anne Keothavong will be nervous about playing you - or you may just want to hang out with your mates and play some tennis! Whatever you want from a tennis club, we have it here

Coaching

Of course you can enjoy tennis without having special coaching - but many young players find that improving their skills helps them enjoy their tennis experience to the full. For more proficient players, you really can, with the right coaching, take your game to the next level. You only need to see the importance Andy Murray attaches to his own team of coaches!

Competition

The LTA and GTC coaches believe that competition is a crucial part of player's weekly tennis programme. But it is not just something that good players do...

  • Competition is exciting and enjoyable
  • It can help develop brilliant life skills such as...
  • Resilience, coping with stress, independence, respect for others, courage and acceptance
  • It is an effective way for a player to improve
  • You get an accurate picture of how 'good' you are
  • It will normally help you retain an interest in tennis

With this in mind the LTA has produced the National Competition Framework. This framework ensures the right competition is provided for the right players at the right time giving clear guidance when to move through the RED, ORANGE and GREEN stages of mini tennis and then on to YELLOW

Here at Grantham Tennis Club we have lots of competition opportunities for our younger players of all ability levels. For example younger mini red players are able to have an adult or older junior on court with them to help with where to stand, scoring and line-calling. It helps everyone enjoy the game more. At the other end of the range, we enter under -18 teams in the AEGON team tennis (formerly the national junior club league)

There are competitive tennis opportunities both within the club and also in County leagues and tournaments - right up to national competitions

Social

Everyone knows tennis clubs are not just about playing tennis! The chance to spend time with mates - and to make new friends - is just as important. Every season there is a good range of activities and events designed to appeal to everyone

  • Family Fun Day
  • Fish & Chip night
  • Easter Egg hunt
  • Halloween party
  • Christmas party

We also get involved in Red Nose Day as well as the Children in Need and Save the Children appeals

Junior Committee

Juniors are at the heart of Grantham Tennis Club. We all believe that Juniors at the Club should be both seen and heard! We have a very active Junior Committee and the Club also employs a Junior Organiser (Sarah Patton). The Junior Committee meets on the first Monday of each month and members can talk about the items that they feel are important as well as bringing their own ideas and thoughts to discussions taking place within the Senior Committee.

For example, we were keen to come up with suggestions on how to make the Clubhouse more inviting. The Juniors proposed that it should be repainted, so a work party was organised with a couple of adult helpers.

If you would like to take part in the Junior Committee, please contact:
